First of all, it is a commandment that we study the scriptures (
2 Timothy 2:15
).
Second of all, If you believe, truly believe, in God and that the Bible is His inspired (
2 Timothy 3:16
) word. Then you should want to know what God has to say.
I saw a television program one time that made me really stop and think. There was one part of this show where this person had spent a certain amount of time with God, praying. And as this person was telling this older man about it. The old man replied something like this, "Now let me get this straight, you spent this much time with your God, and you did all the talking?"
Now, don't get me wrong, it's good to pray. That also is a commandment (
Luke 18:1-8
,
Luke 21:36
, etc.), But what we need to do is not do all the talking, but let God talk to us as well. That is exactly what he does through his Holy Word (
Hebrews 1:1-2
).
It is only through studying that we can find out about God's love, mercy, grace, and also what God wants us to do and how He wants us to do it.
Now also remember, in talking about the topic of 'study'.
